Hats for the Homeless

As part of our Social Studies class, the 6th graders will be participating in a community service project called "Hats for the Homeless". Students will be making hats, scarves and blankets for the homeless of our area and some for Primary Children's. Students will be making these every Friday until Christmas.
The students have been asked to borrow a loom from a family member or friend. They may buy one if they choose. Some looms are available here at school. Crochet hooks, knitting needles or knitting machines can also be used if the students know how to use them. We have some yearn that has been donated in the past but will need more. If you would like to donate yarn, we'd greatly appreciate it. One skein will make one hat. The hats for Primary Children's Hospital are best done in baby yarn.
Once the students have made a hat or two for our project, they may bring yarn to make a hat for themselves or a friend.
Some Students have asked if they could make blankets. They may if they can bring in a piece of fleece. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to provide this.
Thank you for your support in this. The students are excited to begin.
